ʻImi Pono no ka ʻĀina

Hawaiʻi Nei

One of our favorite ways to connect folks to ʻāina and place is through art. Dating back to 2009, our biggest community event is the Hawaiʻi Nei Art Exhibition. Over the last 12 years, more than 800 artists have participated in Hawaiʻi Nei all while creating art that highlights the native plants, animals and ecosystems of our island home. Hawaiʻi Nei

Art Exhibition

Hawaiʻi Nei is a juried art exhibition featuring both professional and amateur artists of all ages who have submitted artwork highlighting the native plants, animals and habitats of Hawai‘i Island in a wide range of media including watercolor, photography, sculpture, fiber, and woodwork.

The show is a collaboration among the Three Mountain Alliance outreach program ʻImi Pono no ka ʻĀina, the Hawai‘i Island Art Alliance, the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife and Wailoa Center State Parks. The exhibition is held in November and December and events take place in the months prior to engage and inspire artists. Special events and activities are held during the exhibition to attract the local community and visitors to raise awareness of our native species and their habitats, our Hawaiʻi Nei.

Past events have included guided bird hikes, touring Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden, kāpala printmaking, forest restoration, and more! Additionally, engaging workshops and special festivities are held during the exhibition to attract the local community and visitors in raising awareness of our native species and their habitats.
